Dearne Valley 2nd XV Enter South Yorkshire Merit Table

Dearne Valley 2nd XV Enter South Yorkshire Merit Table

Olly Dixon15 Sep - 15:58

Dearne Valley RUFC is delighted to share that its newly formed Second Team will compete in this years South Yorkshire Merit Table.

Here's what Dearne Valley RUFC Chairman, Ant Hamilton, had to say:

“One of our primary objectives for the 2025/26 season was to establish a regular and competitive Second Team. This will give our wider squad access to more playing time, enable us to cater for those players that are still developing and put more of an emphasis on the social values of rugby.

I am pleased to announce that due to a strong returning player pool from last season, coupled with a growing number of additions to the club, we are confident that we can now deliver on this objective. The club is in a strong position to enter our second team into the South Yorkshire Merit Table to facilitate more games throughout the season.

It is important that we recognise the hard work that has taken place behind the scenes to support the retention of the majority of the 40+ players that represented the club last term, along with the recruitment of new faces across all skill levels. Our partnership with the Dearne Valley Bulldogs is also a big contributing factor, with more and more players transitioning both ways between the two codes, we really are becoming one club.

In the summer, when we announced our Coaching Structure, we were keen to put in place a team that could cater for both a First Team and Second Team. We are sure Kev and Boggy, our Second Team Coaches, will do a fantastic job of pulling the lads together and we are pleased that we now have a strong base of players for them to work with.

I am thrilled that we could tick of this objective so early in the season and I cant wait to see what we can achieve moving forward.”
