Fly Half, Stevie Shaw, and Club Captain, Andy Thorpe, have been appointed Vice Captains and will help to lead the 1st XV squad in the upcoming Counties 3 campaign.
Shaw was the leading points scorer in the clubs promotion winning season last term, and has become a key member of the team. He also currently plays a leadership role for the Dearne Valley Bulldogs and has previously played for fellow South Yorkshire and Counties 3 side, Thornensians, as well as Moorends Marauders.
Thorpe is embarking on his second season as Club Captain and now takes on the additional responsibilities of Vice Captain for the 1st XV. He has previously played Union for Rotherham Phoenix and Thorensians, and currently play Rugby League with the Dearne Valley Bulldogs, having also turned our for Sheffield Eagles and Hoyland Vikings in the past.
Director of Rugby, Steve Mason, commented on the appointments “Stevie and Andy are both natural leaders, they have experience in similar roles for the Bulldogs. Their leadership within the team has grown over the last 12 months or so and has really started to shine through during the summer. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact they have on the group.”
Andy Thorpe said “I cant wait to see what we can achieve together as a team this season. We are building a strong group, with some brilliant lads and its exciting to see how far we can go.”
Steve Shaw added “It’s a privilege to be asked to be part of the leadership group and a vice captain for this season. We know this season will be a challenge, but we have a really good group of lads and I am sure that together we can push on and show how good we can be.”
